Grid Battery Integration Training
From 4–7 May 2021, representatives from Single Buyer, the Grid System Operator (GSO) and Suruhanjaya Tenaga participated in a multi-module training programme on grid-scale battery storage, delivered by ACELEREX and PGS Energy Training and led by Dr. Randell Johnson.
The seminar covered battery valuation methodologies, system design considerations, procurement frameworks and operational strategies, supported by international case studies. Particular emphasis was placed on assessing the economic and technical roles of battery energy storage systems (BESS) in enhancing grid flexibility, reliability and renewable integration.
For Single Buyer, the programme strengthened institutional capability in evaluating storage deployment within long-term generation planning and market design considerations. As battery technologies increasingly influence system balancing, peak management and ancillary services, deeper technical competence is critical to ensuring disciplined integration into the evolving electricity market framework.
Continuous capability enhancement in emerging technologies reinforces Single Buyer’s readiness to incorporate storage solutions in a structured, economically sound and system-secure manner as Malaysia progresses toward higher renewable penetration.
