Applied Forecasting Workshop Strengthens Analytical Capability
From 6–8 September 2021, Single Buyer conducted The Art of Applied Forecasting workshop in collaboration with RAM Rating Services Berhad and Universiti Malaya to enhance forecasting proficiency within the organisation and across the regulatory ecosystem. Representatives from Suruhanjaya Tenaga also participated.
The programme focused on strengthening technical mastery in forecasting methodologies, covering both quantitative and qualitative models. Participants examined theoretical foundations, statistical techniques and practical applications relevant to electricity demand planning and operational decision-making.
The workshop emphasised the translation of forecasting theory into applied use — including model development, validation, interpretation of outputs and assessment of model robustness. Participants evaluated the suitability of various forecasting approaches based on dataset characteristics, project objectives and policy context, while critically examining model limitations and underlying assumptions.
By advancing internal analytical rigour and fostering methodological discipline, Single Buyer reinforces the robustness of demand projections and planning frameworks that underpin Malaysia’s electricity market. Continuous capability enhancement in forecasting strengthens transparency, predictability and long-term system adequacy as the market evolves toward greater complexity and renewable integration.
