Energy Sector Roundtable #3: Renewables and Electrification

Single Buyer participated in the third Energy Sector Roundtable convened by the CEO Action Network (CAN) and hosted by PETRONAS under the theme “Renewables & Electrification.”

The session centred on Malaysia’s Energy Transition Plan 2021–2040, including the aspiration to achieve 40% renewable energy capacity (18GW) by 2035 and accelerate electrification beyond the current 21% level to advance national climate objectives. The keynote address was delivered by Pn Noor Afifah from KeTSA, followed by a panel discussion featuring representatives from SEDA, PETRONAS, MPIA and Mr. Charan Jit Singh representing Single Buyer.

During the dialogue, Single Buyer contributed perspectives on renewable integration, system planning considerations and market mechanisms required to accommodate higher electrification and variable renewable energy penetration. The discussion underscored the importance of disciplined planning frameworks, tariff structures and grid readiness in ensuring that decarbonisation ambitions translate into sustainable market outcomes.

Participation in cross-industry platforms such as this reinforces Single Buyer’s engagement in shaping policy-to-market pathways, strengthening institutional readiness as Malaysia advances toward a lower-carbon and increasingly electrified energy landscape.
