PPAs Executed for 500MW under LSS@MEnTARI
On 19 and 23 August 2021, ten successful bidders executed Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) under the LSS@MEnTARI competitive bidding cycle conducted by Suruhanjaya Tenaga in the second half of 2020.
Each project carries a capacity of 50MWac, contributing a total of 500MWac of new Large-Scale Solar (LSS) capacity scheduled for grid integration by 2023. This milestone represents a significant addition to Malaysia’s renewable energy portfolio. Since the introduction of the LSS programme in 2016, 1,750MW of transmission-connected solar capacity has been awarded, with 609MW currently operational.
Within this framework, Single Buyer institutionalises the contractual and capacity planning processes that translate awarded projects into committed generation supply. By embedding new solar capacity into long-term generation planning and dispatch arrangements, Single Buyer ensures orderly integration into the grid while maintaining system reliability and market discipline.
The LSS@MEnTARI cycle advances Malaysia’s renewable energy trajectory and aligns with the Government’s target of achieving 31% renewable energy capacity by 2025. Structured procurement and disciplined PPA execution reinforce investor confidence and strengthen the foundations of a progressively more diversified and resilient electricity market.
